Shark Allies

I and a group of three other individuals were tasked with creating a 60 to 90-second animation on a cause we cared about. We chose to focus on the importance of sharks after watching the documentary "Seaspiracy" on Netflix, which revealed the state of the ocean.  We tailored our research towards sharks and our project was shortlisted for the Creative Conscience Award.

Our initial colour palette was chosen to reflect our text. Darker colours represented issues caused by humans in the ocean, while lighter blues were used for a brighter future and a call to action with shark allies.

This workshop was dedicated to storyboarding. To help us understand how many frames could go into one scene we designed our storyboard backwards. This was a speed sketch task where we storyboarded a pre-existing video helping us to consider movement, camera angles and frame rate.

The music and voice-over were produced by Spencer Crowhurst. The aim for the background music was to start ominous to align with the stereotypical view of a shark and following along the music starts to brighten up the more that we learn about the issues involving sharks to give a nice pace to the animation.
